Above and Below the Line: The Labour of Women in Post-War Italian Cinema – Exhibition launch (London, 3 July 2026)

We are pleased to share details of the launch event for the photographic exhibition “Above and Below the Line: The Labour of Women in Post-War Italian Cinema”, taking place at 19.30 on Friday 3 July 2026 at Regent Street Cinema, London.

The exhibition highlights the often-overlooked contributions of women working behind the scenes of post-war Italian cinema through rare archival photographs and biographies. Produced in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna, it is an output of the Arts and Humanities Research Council project Women in Italian Film Production: Industrial Histories and Gendered Labour, 1945–1985.

The launch event will include an introduction to the exhibition by Stephen Gundle (University of Warwick) and Michela Zegna (Cineteca di Bologna), screenings of interview extracts with women from the Italian film industry, and a panel discussion with contemporary Italian female filmmakers and industry professionals, followed by complimentary Zonin Prosecco.
