Archival Voices, Living Testimonies: Personal Narratives of War and Occupation in Italy

The Modern Italian History Seminar (MIHS) at the Institute of Historical Research (IHR) will host a roundtable titled Archival Voices, Living Testimonies: Personal Narratives of War and Occupation in Italy on 25 March 2026, 5.30–7.00 pm (GMT).

The event explores the history of the Second World War in Italy through personal narratives, bringing into dialogue the analysis developed by Simonetta Falasca-Zamponi in Fascism, the War, and Structures of Feeling in Italy, 1943–1945 (Oxford University Press, 2023) with the oral history and archival work of the MemoGen project (The Legacy of the Second World War in the Memory of the Third Generation), curated by Gianluca Cinelli and Patrizia Piredda.

By combining archival research with living memory, the roundtable will examine how personal testimonies and intergenerational narratives both illuminate and challenge established interpretations of war and occupation in Italy.
