The Halted March of the European Left: Protest, Politics, and Class since 1945 – 14 January 2026

ASMI is pleased to share details of the upcoming joint seminar organised by the Modern Italian History and Rethinking Modern Europe Seminars at the Institute of Historical Research (IHR): “The Halted March of the European Left: Protest, Politics, and Class since 1945”.
The event will serve as the joint book launch of:
- Ilaria Favretto, Cultures of Protest and Industrial Conflict in Italy since 1945 (OUP, 2025)
- Matt Myers, The Halted March of the European Left: The Working Class in Britain, France and Italy, 1968–1989 (OUP, 2025)
Speakers will include Ilaria Favretto (Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies, School of Advanced Study, London), Matt Myers (University of Oxford), Nico Pizzolato (Middlesex University), and Donald Sassoon (Queen Mary University of London).
The seminar will take place on Wednesday 14 January 2026, from 5.30 to 7 pm, in hybrid format: online via Zoom (registration required here) and in person at the Institute of Historical Research, Wolfson Room (NB02, Basement), Senate House, London.
